FAQs

  • Who are Batchelor Construction?

We take pride in being a family-owned construction company that excels in intricate and challenging projects often avoided by others.

What truly distinguishes us from ordinary construction firms is our unwavering commitment to client interaction and ensuring their comfort throughout every stage of the project. We prioritize punctuality, honesty, hard work, and consistently deliver work of the highest level.

  • Turn Key Solutions?

As a company we do offer turn key solutions on both new build and extension projects, we handle most work in house but do outsource certain aspects such as plumbing and electrical work, that said we only use the most professional and reputable contractors in the city, this means we can ensure the highest standards of work are always maintained no matter who is working on your project.

  • What experience do you have?

Batchelor Construction was established at the start of 2023, when I saw a huge gap in the market for trusted and reliable builders with a passion for customer service. Our current team has huge amount of knowledge and experience in the industry with an extremely broad skill set. Establishing this business was a clear and natural choice for me, given the expertise within our team and our extensive trade connections, which enable us to execute various projects successfully.

  • How big is your team?

We currently have seven team members: Myself (Tom), my Father (Mark), newcomer and bricklayer (Will) and our loyal apprentice (Seb). We do currently have three more sub contractors which work hard behind the scenes, Jody, Andy and Jack. Our team is the perfect balance between youth and experience.

  • What projects do you specialise in?

Our team is most at home when taking on large scale building projects such as, new builds, renovations and extensions.

While a lot of our team are professional bricklayers by trade, we have a very broad skillset within the team, meaning we can carry out a wide range of work.

  • How do we get a quote?

Getting a quote from us is simple. You can reach out to us by email or phone and I will arrange an phone call appointment with you or a meeting in person. Our quotes are complimentary and we don’t charge call out fees – However, we ask that in return the customer is transparent with us about what they require and the more information the better so we can quote more effectively.

Once we have a clear idea what the project entails, we will provide a costings proposal for the project to give you a guideline price point for the service we offer. If you feel we are the correct fit for your project, we would then be able to issue a full price breakdown of the works for your review.

  • What’s your current availability?

This is such a tricky question to answer as there are so many variables. However, our availability will all depend on the project you have in mind – We are currently taking bookings for 2025. For our bigger projects i.e. new builds and extensions we would always allow a minimum of 3-6 months as a lead time and for much smaller projects such as porches and garden walls we can generally fit these in within 4-6 weeks.

  • Why should we choose Batchelor Construction over an established building company?

In my opinion, the majority of builders in this industry have become complacent and far too reliant on their status of ‘being in the trade’ a long period of time. Yes, this does mean they are experienced in the field, however provides no guarantee on the quality of their work.

At Batchelor Construction, not only do we have a vast amount of experience between us, we also have a proven track record of high standards and great customer service. We are dynamic in our approach and always looking for improvement. We understand for those embarking on a new project, confidence in the contractor is paramount.

As we have been established since March 2023, I know that I unable to show 20 years of visible accounts on Companies House, which to some potential customers comes as a disadvantage. I do have a pool of credible references I can share with any possible customer who will be happy to verify me as an excellent tradesman.

In addition to this, I am able to take new customers to visit some of my previous projects so our workmanship can be seen in person.

  • How much will it cost?

The most straightforward but often uneasy question to ask is, "What's the price?" In our market, there's a certain taboo and concern about unfair pricing, and sometimes, builders have a reputation for overcharging. However, I want to assure you that at Batchelor Construction, that's not the case.

Personally, I believe there's a great number of fantastic, hardworking, and honest tradesmen out there, and we definitely fall into that category. When we're discussing potential projects, we usually ask clients if they have a budget in mind. No pressure to answer, but it can help us streamline our approach. If it turns out that your budget might not cover the project as you envision it, we can explore different materials and finishes to align the costs with your budget.

For those considering extensions to their property, the price typically ranges from £1500-£2200 per square metre. This, of course, can vary depending on factors like project management and the level of finish you desire.

If you're thinking about a new porch for an existing home with plans already prepared, prices are expected to range from £10,000-£15,000 which includes a finished product with project management. However, the final cost can vary significantly based on the porch's size.

Now, when it comes to garden walls or a new wall with fresh footings, the cost can fluctuate quite a bit, primarily depending on the choice of materials. Let's say you want a lovely new brick wall with a capping, measuring 10 meters in length and 1 meter in height – that would typically fall within the range of £5,000 to £8,000.

  • What are the main factors that fluctuate the price of each project?

There are so many variables to pricing each project and we wanted to give you some clarity on what the main three factors are to consider.

Scale: The size of the project and footprint of the build will really dictate the cost, as bigger projects generally require more raw materials and labour to execute.

Scope: Turnkey solutions will inevitably cost far more than partial involvement. If you want us to include footings, drainage, finished floors, main structure, windows doors, heating and electrical systems, plastering/ painting and interior finishes, project management, this will be substantially more than the structure alone.

Finish: The specification and choice of materials is a huge factor to consider. For example, some bricks may cost £800 per 1000 bricks or some can cost £2,000 per 1000, this entirely depends on quality of the product and the shipping costs.

We are here to help guide you through all of the factors with complete transparency.

It’s really important that when you put the project out to tender that you compare quotes from various companies as a like for like comparison as some quotes may not include everything – This can sometimes catch people out!

  • Do you offer project management?

We provide project management services to all our clients. We believe that by overseeing every aspect of project management, it not only puts you at ease but also guarantees that everything runs smoothly. Right at the beginning of the project, we issue you with a schedule of works. This helps us accommodate your busy schedules and ensures you're well-informed about deliveries and the sequence in which the work will be carried out.
